Chaplaincy at Archbishop Wake
Chaplaincy at Archbishop Wake
At Archbishop Wake CE Primary School, we are partnering with The Bridge Youth Project by having a school chaplain who is with us every week on a Thursday.
What is Chaplaincy?
Chaplaincy is all about coming alongside individuals. There has been a long history of chaplains in various parts of society; many hospitals and prisons have chaplains and there are chaplains attached to the military and to sports teams. In the context of our school, the chaplain’s role is to help the whole of the school community flourish while also supporting spirituality.
At Archbishop Wake our chaplain, supports our pupil led Faith Council in planning and running collective worship, supports Religious Education (R.E.) across the school, supports in class as needed and works with individual pupils who may have a pastoral need. They are also available to staff and can provide a listening ear when needed.
Meet our Chaplain!
Hi, I’m Megan Bishop and I am Archbishop Wake’s School Chaplain. This is a new role for me and I am excited to develop chaplaincy at Archbishop Wake over the next few years. My background is in teaching and I have spent the last decade working with children and young people in church contexts; I recently completed a MA specialising in the Spirituality of Children.
One of my favourite things about being a chaplain is that it’s not like any other role for adults in school and it gives me a unique position for the children to get to know me and they love the fact that they get to call me Megan and not Mrs Bishop.
When I am not in school, I am the Children’s Minister at Blandford Forum Parish Church. If you see me on the street or on the school gate please come and say hello, alternatively you can contact me by email: megan@bfpc.org.uk
